The primary objective of our project is to embed gender perspectives systematically into interdisciplinary research frameworks.

Since its founding as a central academic institution at the University of Cologne GeStiK (Gender Studies in Cologne) in 2012, significant strides have been made towards the interdisciplinary integration of gender perspectives, with a particular emphasis on education, teaching, and knowledge transfer. However, the structural and institution-wide integration of gender perspectives into research at the University of Cologne remains a desideratum.

In response to the BMBF funding initiative "Focusing on Gender Aspects," the Division for Equal Opportunities (ChanGe) and GeStiK have developed structural measures to systematically integrate gender dimensions into academic research at the University of Cologne.

Excellence in research necessitates approaches that actively incorporate gender-sensitive and intersectional perspectives. The project "UoC IMPACT – University of Cologne Implementing Gender Aspects in Research" is driven by two core aims:
1. To establish platforms for reciprocal knowledge exchange with selected academic departments at the University of Cologne, enabling the exploration of societal and academic needs, as well as opportunities for incorporating gender as an intersectional analytical framework in research processes.
2. To develop and enhance structures and mechanisms that provide concrete incentives for researchers, alongside facilitating broader networks, tailored consultations, and targeted dissemination of knowledge.

The UoC IMPACT project is generously funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) under the grant number 01FP23G06, spanning the period from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2029.

LET'S WORK TOGETHER!

Our Fellows

Unsere erste UoC IMPACT-Fellow, Dr. med. Laura Wortmann (Geschlechtersensible Medizin, Universität Bielefeld) .

Each year, a fellowship will be announced in a selected research field to attract outstanding guest scholars. These fellows are distinguished by their interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research, established expertise in gender studies, and significant influence within their academic disciplines.
Through this initiative, the University of Cologne aims to foster innovation and enhance the integration of gender perspectives across various research fields, benefiting both academic and societal discourse.

Science In Dialog

"See More Than Before"

Raising awareness for intersectional gender aspects across disciplines is a key focus of our series "Science in Dialogue: See More Than Before." This initiative includes the creation of a blog portal and a short film series, providing for researchers to present their transdisciplinary projects and insights.
In addition, two science slams provide interactive and engaging spaces for dialogue with a broad public audience, fostering connections between academic research and society at large.
Explore how "See More Than Before" bridges the gap between science and society.
